Senior Spotlight: Betty Speight

The Early Years

Betty grew up in Westchester County, New York, as a quiet girl who enjoyed taking walks and going square dancing. She took a business course in school that helped spark her interest in office work, particularly bookkeeping and working with machines.

Kickstarting Her Career

After high school, Betty moved to Ohio and began working at the Akron Beacon Journal in the circulation department where she worked on the books and handled mail subscriptions. This job was perfect for her considering her interest in bookkeeping.

The Start of Something New

She didn’t know it at the time, but being hired at First Energy would change Betty’s life forever. It turns out that the guy who hired Betty was her future husband’s brother. After he introduced Betty to his brother, the two then dated for five years before eventually getting married.

Betty and her loving, supportive husband were married for 60 amazing years and have four beautiful children together. She is also a grandmother to nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Enjoying Her Time With Us

Betty has been with us at The Inn at Belden Village for a couple months now and is really enjoying her time here. It’s no surprise that she’s making plenty of friends because of her bright smile and friendly personality. Her favorite activities so far are bingo and going on day trips. We’re glad to have her here with us and are looking forward to the time ahead.
