Stark County Italian-American Festival Dedicated to Helen Garofalo
Downtown Canton has taken pride in the yearly Stark County Italian-American Festival since 1987. This year’s festival was extra special for The Inn at Belden Village, as it was dedicated to one of our amazing residents, Helen Garofalo. We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such an influential woman’s life. Here’s a little bit about Helen and her career…
About Helen’s Life & Career
Helen Garofalo ran for Clerk of Courts in 1979 with a campaign slogan of “Helen Garofalo—The Dependable Candidate”. Once she was elected, she ended up being that and much more for Stark County. She was not only a dependable candidate, but the first woman to hold office in Stark County. This was a huge win and step forward not only for Ohio, but for the nation, as it was during a pivotal time for women and equality.
Amidst her political duties, Helen managed to raise five beautiful children—two sons and three daughters—with her loving husband, Carl Garofalo. She is also a grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Click here to learn more about Helen’s life and career.
