Senior Spotlight on Jim and Nancy Walker, a Positive and Loving Couple

For the month of November, The Inn at Belden Village is pleased to announce our senior spotlights Jim and Nancy Walker. Jim and Nancy are a loving couple from Pennsylvania who have been married for 54 years. The pair met in their hometown of Redding, Pennsylvania where Nancy worked as a secretary for a plumbing and heating company. She loved her job there and everyone she worked with, including the nice coworkers who used to pick her up for work in the snow. “She was the best secretary around”, says a smiling Jim of his wife Nancy. The love between these two is unmistakable.

Jim worked as a laborer for many years and for several different companies. His favorite job, however, was at Branch Trucking where he worked for 20 years. Jim and Nancy went on to have a son and daughter, along with their granddaughter who is recently engaged and graduated from Ohio State University. They could not be more proud of her. “We wanted more grandchildren but the one we got is everything we could have asked for”, says Jim.

Although Jim and Nancy have only been with us at The Inn at Belden Village for a few months now, they are enjoying their experience so far. “We have been having fun. There’s plenty of activities to participate in”, says Jim. Nancy’s favorite activity is Bingo and according to Jim, she’s on a roll! Unfortunately Nancy was diagnosed earlier this year with Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s, but thankfully she has her caring and helpful husband by her side every step of the way. The couple expressed relief that the nurses here are so helpful and the in-house doctor comes right to their room.

It’s impressive just how positive Jim and Nancy are despite their circumstances. “You have to stay positive”, says Jim. He has been a rock for Nancy during this difficult time, and they are both grateful to have each other’s company.

The Inn at Belden Village could not be more pleased to have this lovely couple staying here at our senior assisted living facility, and we look forward to many more years with them.
