Mario Terrazas was born and raised in Mexico, and lived there until he came to the United States at age 26. Growing up, Mario looked up to his father who was a school principal and had a great work ethic. In watching him, Mario learned what it meant to work hard and be a respectable man and decided to follow in his footsteps.
Becoming a Chef
If you ask Mario how he became a chef, he’ll tell you it was a bit of an accident. When he came to America, he needed a way to provide for his family and was given an opportunity to work in a kitchen. He quickly realized that he enjoyed the work and was able to make good money doing it. From there he was noticed for his skill and worked his way up.
Mario’s favorite part of being a chef is learning about food from all around the world. At the last restaurant he worked for, he enjoyed creating innovative Asian fusion dishes that wowed the owner who was from Thailand.
It’s About More Than Just Food…
Mario has been with us at The Inn at Belden Village for over a year now and we are so thrilled with his enthusiasm for providing our residents delicious and nutritious meals. This is more than just a job for Mario, it’s his passion, and he puts so much thought into our menus. With a focus on nutrition, Mario is mindful of every ingredient that goes into our food, thinking about how it will affect our residents with various health concerns. To him, his job is not just to cook food for people—it’s to keep them healthy and strong.
Mario is no stranger at all to good Mexican cuisine. After all, that’s what he often prepares at home for his family. But he plans to take it slow with the Mexican food here at The Inn at Belden Village, and ease our residents into authentic dishes with the staples they’re familiar with like quesadillas, nachos, and tacos. We can’t wait to see what he comes up with!
